Why hello! This post may bore some of you. I'll give you some background on it so you're not wondering if I'm insane or what. When I read blogs and reviews and such, I always wonder what everyone's "set up" is like - what their workspace looks like and how they store things. I'm sure lots of you out there wonder the same thing! Right?
I thought I would share a few little tidbits of my "office set up". It's not much of a set up nor much of a true workspace, but I'll add to it as things change!
First, my desk! Most important! I was spoiled with this totally awesome desk after we moved in to our first home! I absolutely adore it. I'm still turning into "mine" and giving it character... sometimes sad, painful character. Like when my Canon 7D violently fell on it, scuffed it up, then hit my foot/toe/floor...
There are pencil cups everywhere, as you can see. And the drawers hold scrap papers, active pen pal letters, sticky notes, and the bottom drawer containers things I'm saving for giveaways (though it's overflowing).
One of the cupboards in the desk has a pull out drawer on the bottom with a lined bottom. I love it for my inks! Of course, this ink picture is a little dated... *ahem* but let's just leave it as is, so I don't look crazy.
My shelf is a little sad in this large almost empty room, but it's perfect for me! And for my cretins (the cats) to climb. I've got unused journals across the top. Um, yes, I have a lot of unused journals. The second and third shelf contains books. Used journals are stored in a locking drawer in the desk (just in case someone ever broke in...). The colored boxes contain stickers, fountain pen cleaning/adjustment parts (syringes/needles/silicone grease, etc). The bottom shelves have boxes that hold extras, which are sorted. One box contains pens/pencils, another contains office supplies such as paper clips and such, another box holds unused stationery.
This is my air freshener - I picked a cute little glass jar at The Container Store, filled it with some baking soda, and added a few drops of lavender essential oil. This amazing oil was purchased in Naramata, B.C, at the Forest Green Man lavender farm. Talk about dreamy! I love this air freshener because it doesn't use any weird stuff, it's easy to refill myself, and when I leave the room, I just cap it (so I don't become sensitized to the scent). So I pop the cap off when I'm in the office and it is fragrant and lovely. And soothing!
Now you have a glimpse into my little living area when I'm working on reviews or taking pictures or just tweetin'.

I love the wooden desk. You have everything so neat and tidy. Do you have any trouble with your cats invading the desk top?
Love your desk. You have it all so organized and neat. My desk looks like a craft/art/pen store exploded all over it. It's a real mess. I think it kinda reflects me well, lol.
Hehe it's not always like this... I did have to do some extra tidying for the pictures! Some people definitely work better in a less tidy state anyway, nothing wrong with that! I just like it tidy hehe
Thank you! I love big solid desks. I'm somewhat forced to keep it so tidy because of the cats. They don't pull anything out of the pen cups but if it's lying on the desk, it's fair game. I now have a big box on the desk for fountain pens and dip pens, just in case they get too curious. This room is the only room they're not allowed in when I'm not in there hehe. Do you have any desk-invading pets?
My miniature schnauzer doesn't climb or jump so the desk top is safe but if I am working on something down at his level (I sometimes take photos with the subject on the floor) he is an interested helper. It is very cute. The only thing has ever damaged was he ate the silicon earplugs off my ear-canal headphones - yum "Dad's earwax" flavour... :)
HAHAHAHA that sounds like a crazy pet thing to do hehehehe. Ah well, that's not too bad of a casualty. You should post a pic of him on your blog/twitter! I love to see other peoples' pets!
If you ever have a break in, your journals would be safer in an unlocked area. Thieves will pick or even break a locked drawer assuming there will be valuables in it (jewelry, computer equipment, whatever). They might pull journals and notebooks off a shelf to see if there's anything behind them, but they generally don't steal them - there's no financial gain, and they want to be in and out fast.
They'll also go through your underwear drawer, jewelry boxes, and possibly your mail. We were broken into (according to the cops it's more common for them to do it during the day when there are no cars in the driveway - they don't actually want to see people or take the chance of violence). They took the laptops, iPods, a very large jar of quarters, all the real jewelry, and the mail. The jimmied open the two locked drawers in the house and dumped them on the floor but didn't actually take anything. They didn't touch the bookshelves. Oh, they also went through our underwear drawers *shudders*. Oddly enough, they didn't steal my very expensive rings. They didn't even realize they existed because instead of being in my jewelry box, the rings were in a cheap knickknack on the television that they didn't realize was a "hidden" box! Oh, they took the mail because there were bills and they wanted to see if they'd find our credit card numbers or anything like that (said the cops).
Anyway, the locked drawer is good if you want to keep people out (nosy friends, children who might be visiting, etc.), but there's a better chance of your journals being disturbed by thieves if they're locked up :( Obviously, your mileage may vary, I'm not a professional, blah blah blah etc. etc. etc.
