PACKAGING
The AC Sport Carbon fountain pen comes in very cute packaging that I very much like. It is nestled inside a pretty Kaweco tin container, inside a molded plastic sleeve covered in felt. There is space in the mold for another pen as well. The pen is safe in the tin. This tin makes the Keep It? cut. I use my other one to hold ink cartridges.
APPEARANCE
The Kaweco AC Sport carbon fountain pen is a pocket sized pen. The pen combines solid matte finished aluminum and carbon fiber, presenting a very sleek and cool look that I love. It looks somewhat 3D.
Written on the cap is Kaweco AC Sport Germany in nice silver writing. It is tasteful and attractive. On the top of the cap is the Kaweco metal logo. Posted, the pen is still compact and looks as awesome as ever.
NIB & PERFORMANCE
The Kaweco nib is small and cute and is the perfect match for this pen. Well, it would probably look cool as a black nib, but this steel nib looks good too. I was itching to try it out because it's a double broad. Yum.
I didn't bother flushing this pen out before I inked it up. I used a Kaweco Royal Blue cartridge to get acquainted with the nib. And then I fell in love with the nib. DOUBLE BROAD? YES PLEASE. DAAAANG. Good thing these nib units are exchangeable because now I have to go to JetPens and get a double broad for my own broad nib Ice Sport because this nib is delicious.
Writing with this nib was a luscious and broad experience (if that makes any sense...). As this pen has to be returned to Kaweco, I did not adjust the nib for wetness, but if it were mine, I would tweak it ever so slightly to make it just a tad more wet. I think for most users, this nib is set up perfectly. I just happen to like really juicy nibs! The nib offers line variation with pressure but it's so broad that I didn't really feel the desire to push it. It even broad out the shading in this otherwise simple ink. I love this smooth nib. I want to keep writing with it. No skipping, no hard starts, no flow issues. Nothing. It just starts writing as soon as the nib hits the page, and doesn't stop until I'm done.
The double broad nib pulls off some great shading.
The AC Sport takes international short cartridges but the Kaweco squeeze converter fits them as well.
IN HAND
The Kaweco slogan is "Small in the pocket, great in the hand" - AND IT IS. The AC Sport carbon feels great in hand - it is smooth and matte but not slippery after writing for awhile. Despite its small size, it has a nice weight to it and I love to write with it. And I love to hold it. And roll it in my fingers. I wouldn't put a clip on it.
While it's not too small to write with unposted, it has just the right size posted, so that's how I used it. I love this pen. Too much. Darn.
PROS
- Sleek and attractive pen.
- Nice and comfortably weighted in hand, especially for a pocket sized pen.
- Very nice, smooth double broad nib.
- Great detailing.
- Black powder coated finish is easy to scratch.
Oh dear. If you can spare the $122.50, can take care of its finish, and you don't mind compact pens, GET IT. Oh and try out the double broad nib. I heart this pen - lovely appearance and feel, and the double broad nib captured my heart with its divine self.
This pen was provided by Kaweco for review. I was not compensated monetarily for this review. All opinions here are 100% my own, and are only influenced by the coolness and extreme sleekness of the pen.

Man that thing is sharp lookin'. I need to try out my BB nib now.
As a non-fountain pen user I don't understand the "shading". The writing looks like a pen that was fading, too dry, or running out of ink ? Pictures are lovely as usual though.
Shading happens when the surface tension of the ink causes it to bead more heavily in some parts of the writing than others. More ink means more dye left on the page, and a more intense color. All inks shade, though in some it's barely noticeable while in others it's so dramatic that the ink appears to change color entirely. Excessive shading can be distracting and interfere with legibility, but most fountain pen users enjoy a moderate amount of shading because it is a feature completely unique to fountain pens.
Awesome review of an amazing looking pen. I've got the same one from Sebastian to review as well. I even love the slight grinding noise it makes when you remove the cap. I don't want to give it back. :/
drool....
drool is right. Everything about it is beautiful! Even the script on the nib!
I gotta meet this Sebastian fellow.
I know. I cringe at the thought... I wonder what they're going to do with all these pens we send back...
WOW you score some great demos. I've always loved this series of pens for their price point, small dress pants friendly size and better than average writing experience. As cool as that finish is on this one not sure I can spring for the coin to let it lay around in the bottom of my pocket with my keys, pocket knife and other dangerous object. Thanks for the review though to make me smile.
