APPEARANCE
This beautiful little journal is thin and light. The cover is a smooth suede-like material and it's very nice to touch. The tea brown colour is absolutely gorgeous - intensely rich and warm. I picked it based on the picture at The Journal Shop and it was a great representation of the colour! I love it. Inside, the paper is velvety smooth, and very easy on the eyes, with light rulings, and creamy, delicious looking paper. The contrast of the tea brown cover with the cream paper is just yummy.
Fountain pen users will be delighted to know the Midori paper of this journal holds up very well to fountain pen ink. Actually, it's exemplary. For paper to be considered fountain pen friendly, in my humble opinion, it cannot feather. I do accept bleed through and show through, but feathering is a no-no. In this case, there is no feathering and no bleed through. Show through with wet inks is perfectly acceptable. Win-win. Not only that, ink seems to glow on this paper!
Oops. Commenter Pelahale pointed out I wrote "no showthrough" when clearly there is. My bad. SORRY! No bleed through, low show through, relatively anyway. |
Other pens work just fine in this journal, of course but why you would want to waste these golden pages on anything else is beyond me... DON'T DO IT.
PROS
- Lies flat
- Really nice cover.
- Very elegant appearance.
- Wonderful paper.
- This particular model is very convenient to carry.
- More, bigger sizes needed!
The Midori World Meister Volume 1 Dainel journal is very elegant, very classy, and very scrumptious. It is a treat to write in. I only wish it came in a size with even more pages so I could fill it with more fountain pen ink. What a beautiful collaboration between French and Japanese works.
Note that I won this notebook in a giveaway, but I remain as unaffected by this as possible. But it's still pretty gorgeous, innit?
These have exceptional colours. Thank you for this review, I was looking at them for too long and now it is quite obvious. I have to buy couple of them :)
ReplyDeleteOh my bad. I meant to write low show through. Thanks for pointing that out - I shall add a note!! Ahh... the inky mind...
