PACKAGING

Review & Kickstarter Launch: @TactileTurn Mover & Shaker New Materials - Bronze, Copper, Brass, Titanium
The Shaker arrived in packaging I like the best - a very simple, very useful, very reusable plastic container that can be adjusted to the size of the writing instrument. It clicks open, clicks closed, and wastes very little space in shipping. It's a keeper!

APPEARANCE

The Shaker is the shorter of the two Tactile Turn machined pens (The Mover being the other). It has a smooth, rounded body, a tapered nose, and steel hardware. The clip is long, extending to where the barrel unscrews. The knock is also steel. The tip and grip area is particularly unique, having a custom lay pattern (thin grooved rings) to ensure better grip. It is very comfortable and not sharp to hold.

The copper version of The Shaker is absolutely stunning. Copper is one of my favourite metals because I love the way it starts out rich, warm, and shiny, and how it changes over time and with use, becoming uniquely yours, unique to its owner. It's a stunning pen, a stunning colour, and has a beautiful appearance. After smearing my (umm...obviously disgusting) hands all over it, there were darker prints starting to form. I really look forward to seeing this beauty patina.

PERFORMANCE
The performance of this pen mostly comes down to which refill you select to use in it because the pen itself is yummy. The Shaker ships with a Schmidt Easy Flow 9000 ballpoint refill, which actually happens to be my favourite ballpoint refill! As such, I love the performance of this pen. Of course, the one it came with was black. Just like with the aluminum Shaker, the pen body is nice and heavy and combined with such a smooth flowing ballpoint refill results in stellar performance. I love the combination and I love the writing experience. The copper body is very heavy but is very well-balanced, even for my hands which aren't all that big (although not tiny either), and the weight of the body and the smoothness of the refill lets the pen "write itself". It just glides over the page.

Here is a pretty long list of refills that fit The Shaker. Surely there is something you like on this list, if not the Easy Flow 9000.

IN HAND

I requested another Shaker from Will because, like the teal Shaker, this one felt right and comfortable in my hand, despite the clip being longer and pressing into my thumb web if I rotated it inward. A very minor thing. What I did find with this heavier copper Shaker was the clip was not noticeable at all, even when it rotated inwards. With the weight of the copper pen, the size of the Shaker is perfect for me.

The copper has some serious weight to it, but because it's the shorter of the two pens, I find it well-balanced for my hand, and it doesn't feel uncomfortable to write with. I suspect the same amount of care and attention to design was put into the Mover.

I said it in my previous Shaker Teal review, and I'll say it here again: I absolutely love the knock. It's smooth, it's resistance-free, and it's pretty much silent. It's a joy to hold in hand and click, un-click, click, un-click, over and over. I love it.
As for literally being in hand, oils start to leave marks on the finish quickly. Not bad marks, but very unique and interesting marks. I love it.

I loved The Shaker in teal - it was a great pen. Great design. Will has knocked it out of the park with this copper version of The Shaker. Check out the Kickstarter project and do not miss your chance to pick up one of these pens in brass, copper, bronze, and/or titanium!

I received this pen free of charge for the purpose of this review. I was not compensated monetarily for my review. Everything you've read here is my own opinion. There are no affiliate links in this review.
