On Saturday, February 18, 2017, the first Dutch Fountain Pen Group meet took place! We went to Dudok in The Hague, just outside the famous Passage, at a huge table full of pen lovers! After a leisurely lunch and chat, we headed over to P. W. Akkerman in the Passage, filling the store with enthusiasm (and probably noise).
What's the point in meeting other fountain pen enthusiasts? You get to meet people who love the same hobby you love: a common love and insanity for fountain pens and accessories. I've met so many wonderful, hilarious, generous, kind people through this hobby. At the meet, we don't just talk about pens - we are developing friendships! The obvious fun part about meeting other fountain pen folks is you get to check out all their cool pens, inks, and accessories. It's an opportunity to share your favorites, and to try out nibs or pens you've never used before. Or fondle pens you never imagined you would get to touch.
P. W. Akkerman were gracious hosts as we filled the store. Some ink was purchased, a few pens, and the sweetest part was goody bags were organized for all attendees! What a surprise! The bags contained miscellaneous items, including delicious Hopjes candies, pen magazines (Pen World and/or Penna), a Graf Von Faber-Castell wood pencil, Waterman cards, and the best part: our choice of a bottle of ink from the original ink line up! Stellar, lovely people.
Side note: the store has some really neat things.
